Thank You Student Council Members!

Yesterday during the Parent Teacher Conferences, six of your Student Council Members worked to make your school a little safer.

They used their muscles and teamwork to clean up the bigger rocks and cement chunks around the area you all like to play football and hit the volleyball.

Your Student Council Members decided to clean this area for all of us because they did not want you to fall and badly hurt yourselves if you hit the rocks.

They also picked up trash around the basketball court and removed some 2 x 4s that had nails in them, again removing dangerous items for you.

There were three boys that also helped lift a large cement block into the truck, Student Council would like to thank them as well!

Thank you Student Council members, you are making great changes! We are proving that there are great leaders in all of us!

We can all make differences everyday, please pick up your trash, even if its not your trash, pick it up and put it in the garbage. Say "please" and "thank you."

If you see something that you would like to see improved, start the change, people want to help, sometimes we just need you to start!

Remember, like Mrs. Peshlakai said, make positive choices for a healthier life!

The Importance of Reading Assessments

Reading is part of every aspect of learning, which is why students in GMCS begin the school year taking a reading assessment. Assessments provide teachers with the knowledge they need to help students become fluent readers.

Students at THM will take the first Reading Inventory assessment beginning the week of August 20 into September 7th. The results help teachers determine reading levels through a reading Lexile score that is converted to a grade level reading range. The assessment results help THM teachers write lesson places to meet the learning needs of students by determining areas of reading students are strong in and where they are struggling. Parents can help boost reading achievement by promoting reading at home each night, for at least 30 minutes.
